James Berry 29 Aug 1992 - 30 Dec 2005
* Kirk Braddan church was full to overflowing for James Berry's funeral service. The large congregation included representatives from British Cycling and club sponsors Scottish Provident International. Reporters from the local press and radio were also in attendance. A group of James's Team Scottish Provident Isle of Man club mates followed the hearse on their bikes as the cortege made its way to the church under a police escort. During the service there were moving and sometimes amusing tributes to James from his school teacher Mrs Duffy, children's cycling league organiser Dot Tilbury and IOM Cycling Association chairman Steve Shimmin. After the church ceremony, James's team mates formed a guard of honour at the crematorium. Despite the overwhelming sadness of the occasion, the huge turn out demonstrated just how many lives James had touched in his thirteen years. He will be greatly missed by everyone, but never forgotten. |
